Its been one of those runaround Saturdays. We have been waiting to hear confirmation that Rebecca could pick up her new car today. There has been some excitment around the house....well, Rebecca has been excited and it sort of spreads out.
No one in the house has ever had a brand new car. I have had to buy them for people at work, but no one at home myself included has ever had one.
Like everyone else we always justified this with the usual, "oh I would never buy a new car the depreciation is terrible" but y'know....when it comes down to it and its for the right reasons (and Rebecca is the right reason) you just say what the hell, and before you know whats happening Rebecca has a NEW car. :) and its wonderful.
Its got all the good stuff, air con, air bags all round, electric pack but first and most important, that dandy little mirror in the middle to do your hair in.
We have both had a little drive and I do admit to a small twinge of jealosy. She is enjoying driving it for any reason. Jason came round to borrow a cup of sugar and she bundled him into the car and drove him to Africa to buy some sugar cane, and I think she is in the bedroom now working on a plan to abduct the postman and drive him on his post-round.
I was very frightened - she was doing 80 on the way out of Newbiggin, and once we got onto the motorway, past Durham, she was zig-zagging wildly across all 8 lanes, laughing maniacally and screaming something about 'handling' and 'poke'. The whole 100 mile round trip was completed before the kettle had boiled back at home. It's a lovely car though, complete with NEW CAR SMELL, and more gadgets than something Q could dream up. When I get my beetle back, I'll challenge you to a race...
